Uveitis: Controlling Ocular Inflammation with Expertise

Uveitis refers to inflammation of the Uvea—the eye’s middle layer—that encompasses the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. Uveitis can be triggered by autoimmune diseases, infections, or trauma and is associated with pain, redness, blurry vision, and sensitivity to light.

At Dada Laser Eye Institute, we excel at determining the underlying cause of Uveitis and tailoring treatment to eliminate inflammation and avert vision loss.

Types of Uveitis

  • Anterior Uveitis (Iritis): Most frequent, affects front of eye
  • Intermediate Uveitis: Involves the vitreous and peripheral Retina
  • Posterior Uveitis: Involves the Retina or choroid
  • Panuveitis: Involves all Uveal layers

Common Causes

  • Autoimmune diseases (E.g., Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis)
  • Infections (E.g., Herpes, Tuberculosis)
  • Systemic conditions (E.g., Sarcoidosis)
  • Trauma or postoperative inflammation

Diagnosis

DLEI employs:

  • Slit-lamp biomicroscopy
  • Fundus imaging and fluorescein angiography
  • Blood tests and systemic examinations for underlying conditions

Treatment

  • Corticosteroids (Eye drops, oral or injections)
  • Immunosuppressive treatment of chronic or autoimmune conditions
  • Antibiotics/antivirals if infectious
  • Cycloplegic drops to alleviate pain and avoid synechiae

Our specialists aim at both suppressing inflammation and avoiding complications such as Cataracts, Glaucoma, or Macular Edema. Frequent follow-up and multidisciplinary treatment are frequently required.

At DLEI, we integrate Ophthalmic and systemic treatment to address the underlying cause of Uveitis and restore comfort to patients while maintaining long-term vision.
