Why ROP Screening Is So Important
Premature babies require ongoing eye exams since their Retinas have not matured completely at birth. Early detection is essential in the case of ROP. If left untreated, ROP can lead to:
- Severe vision loss
- Lazy Eye (Amblyopia)
- Crossed eyes (Strabismus)
- Total blindness
We collaborate with Pediatricians and NICUs to offer early Eye evaluation, usually in the initial weeks of birth.
Diagnosis and Management
Our Retina Specialists monitor Retinal growth using equipment like RetCam imaging and indirect Ophthalmoscopy, typing out the stage of ROP.
Treatment includes:
- Laser treatment – to suppress abnormal vessel growth
- Anti-VEGF injections – to control vessel development
- Surgical intervention – in advanced stages for retinal detachment
