Rosette Cataract Treatment

A Rosette Cataract is a rare type of Cataract that creates a flower-like or star-shaped pattern on the lens of the eye. It typically occurs following blunt eye trauma, such as having been struck by a ball, fist, or hard object. “Rosette” is the name given because the Cataract creates a unique pattern on the lens surface.

The Science

The Flower-Pattern Cataract

Rosette cataracts follow eye trauma with a petal-like pattern. Careful evaluation decides the right time and technique for surgery.

What Causes Rosette Cataracts?

Rosette Cataracts can occur right after injury or develop after a while. They are more prevalent in young persons and sportspeople, particularly those engaged in contact sports. In other instances, the injury could involve other eye structures like the Iris or Retina, and hence treatment might be complicated.

Individuals with Rosette Cataracts commonly experience blurry vision, glare, or halos of light. Because the center of the lens is usually affected, even a small Rosette can seriously interfere with vision.
